Summary
This explorer layer provides simplified transmission corridor sketches for orientation and for corridor context that has not yet been promoted into the main source-controlled network layer.
Explorer label: Corridor sketch
Layer group: Transmission and trade layers
Feature count: 7
Simplified substation sketch for orientation and not-yet-promoted corridor context.
What It Represents
This layer condenses the grid story into readable substation-to-substation sketches. It is less about drawing every tower and more about making the main evacuation and backbone constraints visible quickly.
How To Read It
Use this layer for quick orientation or when a corridor does not yet have route-grade public geometry. In the power-system preset, the major transmission network is the preferred default. If this layer shows a connection that the major network does not, that usually means the corridor is recognized as important but has not yet been promoted into source-controlled network geometry.
Coverage / Method
The layer is a curated context sketch exposed through the explorer map inventory. It covers simplified substation-to-substation spines and corridor context, while the major transmission network remains the preferred layer for promoted source-controlled corridor geometry.
Caveats
Conceptual spines are abstractions. They simplify alignments, combine segments, and prioritize narrative clarity over engineering detail. They can include strategic links before the site has route-grade trace geometry. Once a link is promoted, as Dana-Kushma-New Butwal now is, the major transmission network becomes the authoritative reader-facing layer.
